Ruche Holiday Lookbook

December 17, 2012
Here’s a look at Ruche’s holiday collection inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. The collection really captures the new wealth of the 1920′s with its drop waist dresses and flapper-esque pieces. Wouldn’t you love to pretend you’re Daisy in one of these darling outfits?

The All Star of Project Runway

March 23, 2012
This season of Project Runway has been the most intense yet, as well it should have been since it was a competition between the best of past seasons. The stakes were higher than ever and the challenges pushed the designers’ abilities to their limits. The two-part finale of the All Stars season followed the final three designers through their final challenge and their runway show, and, of course, a winner was selected.

The final three all star designers were Mondo Guerra, Michael Costello, and Austin Scarlett.

The final challenge that was given to Mondo, Michael, and Austin was to design a five-look collection in four days. Keeping up with Project Runway tradition, though, a surprise was added to their challenge on the second day: to design a sixth look for their collection using the scraps from previous challenges. Luckily, they received some help from some of the cut designers.

Here are the collections that the designers completed for the runway show:

Mondo’s collection was entitled “Therapy,” since this competition drove him crazy. The Rorschach inkblot pattern was created by hand- impressive!

Michael’s collection was inspired by the Serengeti and featured many different animal prints. Of course, he also had to include a beautifully draped dress, as well.

Austin’s collection, as he put it, belongs to an eighteenth century vampire who borrow clothes from her “Hasidic dandy-friends.” His usual sophisticated glam was mixed with some rocker-chic elements to create a whole new aesthetic.

So who won Project Runway All Stars? I was rooting for Austin- I’ve loved him ever since he was robbed of the title in the first season. But, alas, the All Stars winner was Mondo. (Michael and Austin didn’t go home empty handed, though. They both got two tickets to Paris as a consolation prize!)

Awake

March 11, 2012

Harry Potter’s Jason Isaacs is in a new thrilling show called Awake. He plays a man who got into a car accident with his wife and son in which one of his family members was killed- but we don’t know who. Every morning when he wakes up, he is in one of two realities- one in which is wife died and his son lived or one in which his son died and his wife lived. He cannot decipher reality from fantasy, but as long as he still has his family, it doesn’t matter.

Watch it here.

Inconceivable!

March 8, 2012
Just met Wallace Shawn… It was amazing.

He was going to do I talk at my school that I was going to miss because I had class, and then he just walked right by me! He seemed very entertained when the other girl in the hall and I followed him to the philosophy department and tried to get him to talk to us… He was cracking up! But he was super nice and appeased us and took pictures with us and shook my hand! It was great. I was so excited. I can’t get over it. This was definitely the best way to end midterm hell week #2 and usher in spring break!

Here’s a picture:

And he asked us why we ivy leaguers weren’t studying instead. Ha! Amazing. Absolutely AMAZING!

Ok, I’m done gushing now. Time to go to sleep since I need to wake up at 6am to visit a college with my brother…
